Abated

you've squandered love
bled freely for a saturated cause
while I've been here and open
the conversation fires burning idle

The pulse quickens of a guilty heart
that comforts you to pursue transient shadows
when we all know
she eats Godiva for breakfast
lunch
and supper

I could like the taste of those words
you tame to equate her to the delicate brilliance of a clear night's sky
I could gratify the feel of callused hands
tenderly grazing over my trembling lips
or even your gaze of her face in passionate bliss
would be heaven reflected in these dimly eyes
but I can only dream
upon a hopeful request for change on this vibrant chase
that maybe within time
you'll see
how I could be the sort of girl
eager for a little getting used to.

Ariadne...first off, please allow me to welcome you to Passions in Poetry, and I hope you will stay for a long time, as I would love to read more of your works.

This poem is very bittersweet, filled with secret longings of what might and could be, were one's eyes only open to the possibility.
