Oh we know Janet Reno, we've seen her handiwork
If children are the issue, her method is scorched earth
Kill mothers holding babies, if daddy has a gun
And if they've got religion, just burn them everyone
A little boy from Cuba, no matter what his plight
Belongs to Fidel Castro, he has no human rights
We'll take the mental patients, the killers, and the thugs
We'll even take the smugglers of contraband and drugs
Just don't come here with children; possessions of the state
Cause once they've tasted freedom, they can't repatriate
Let's send him back with daddy, his mom just died in vain
We'll curry Castro's favor; the shrinks can wash the pain
It's too bad for Elian, so sad for Juan Miguel
They'll have to do their bonding within an island jail

Great flow to a poem on a topical and contraversial subject.

Excellent poem Jester
This child had become a political football and while not being equipped to defend Janet Reno I believe she acted well aven if way too late, no lives were lost in an explosive environment. The child is currently with his Father as he should be.

Thank-you, fellow poets, your comments are greatly appreciated.
Hey Jack, I wrote this poem on Good Friday, before things got so heated up. Perhaps the environment could have been diffused before it got so explosive. I agree, he should be with his father, especially if we can't show them any different form of government here.
Thanks again,
                     Jester

Wonderful description.  I find myself STILL not having a very good vocabulary @ the moment!  There's nothing funny about writer's block!

Ok, I won't make this into a political forum, I will only say; excellent, descriptive piece on a extremely touchy subject.
