Bedtime Story

When the moon rises
you shall hear
the skittering of claws
being slowly drawn
across the bare wood floor
beneath your bed

Watch out!
Do not dangle your socked feet
over the bed's edge
Lest you feel the sharp prick
of claws grasping
clutching at your ankle

Of course I now know
that hideous monsters
do not live beneath my bed
But I also know
that if I keep my legs covered
away from the bed's edge
the claws cannot grab me

This is great, Gary! I remember these very thoughts when I was a kid trying to go to sleep at night!

The one thing that scared me most as a kid was the dark!! Come to think of it, I'm still not keen on it! Thanks for this, it brought a smile to my face!

Love and hugs,
Lizzie

Jonas,
Of course we know that hideous monsters don't hide under beds,........but one can never be too careful!
                Great narrative! Dennis :^)

Great poem Jonas. Thank goodness I was never afraid of anything going to sleep. Guess I should consider myself lucky huh ?

Very cute poem, Gary.

I bet it's just a cute little kitten under your bed, but I still wouldn't look.
