Banditos
We went out at dawn
riding hard on the trail.
Posse right behind us
for three sacks of mail.

We hit the train for money
letters and such all we got.
Now, just three hours ahead
of getting hung or shot.

Horses steamed and blowing
hard against morning mist.
Hounds baying off down wind
for mail, all is risked.

Hard tack and water
going down at high-speed.
Saddle takes another bite
it's rest we all need.

We'll be looking back
for the rest of our days.
Why, good Lord, didn't we listen
to what our Mama had to say?

"Ride hard, boys; I love you!
you're done before you start."
She said; " ride em hard, boys
you're gonna break my heart! "

And now we are a running
all for three sacks of mail.
Guess we should give up
then die our turn in jail.

Just now; we're full gallop
riding hard to rising sun.
Bro,  it's been fun and real
But sure as hell; not real fun!

Nicely done story. Reminds me of the scene in "Butch Cassidy."

I could almost smell the horses and taste the fear. Good one.
