Can't you see the little darlin',
With fear in those innocent eyes,
Her bottom lip is trembling,
As she holds back her heavy sighs.
She wants so much to take a hand,
And feel a loving touch,
Not a rough, harsh, stinging blow,
She's already felt that too much.
The comfort of two loving arms,
To embrace her tenderly,
Sitting on the softest lap,
Is where this child should be.
Trust will be impossible,
Disappointment is all she's known,
And the questions will be unending,
When this little girl is grown.
She'll be an adult at a tender age,
Looking for answers so hard to find,
So many days she'll spend searching,
For the child she left behind.
She deserves to have a childhood,
With a heart so carefree and light,
She deserves to be tucked into bed,
Feeling love instead of fright.
Those innocent eyes should be shining,
With laughter, not bitter tears,
She will not thrive and grow as she should,
Until we have taken away her fears.
