The Writers Contest was at hand,
The entries had been sent,
Creative works across the land,
The Judges' view now lent.

Poetry and short story,
The insights of a Muse,
The authors seeking glory,
The Judge must careful choose.

So many spoke of Columbine,
And of social injustice,
Tragedies that tingle the spine,
Issues that command our notice!

Some of tender moments spoke,
Like a lovers sweet embrace,
Some spoke of throwing off the yoke,
From relationships of distaste.

But the fairest entry of the pile,
Rose clearly to the top,
A poem written with grace and style,
Was the "Cream of this Crop".

It told of a mans' devotion,
Toward his children and his wife,
It was filled with rich emotion,
For his family WAS his life!

He worked many a long hard day,
For his family, to provide,
All this for minimal pay,
But he took it all in stride.

When all the bills were paid,
Had nothing left for self,
But his greatest treasure was made,
Saw his family as his wealth!

The Contest now was ended,
One entry now stood tall,
About sacrificial love extended,
To ones' wife and children small!

Dear Dennis: Wonderful poem! He has all the riches he'll ever need. You've done a beautiful poetic job on this one. You get the prize in my book! I know that I feel like the richest woman in the world every time I thank God for my family. Ellie

Dear Brother,
This is another lovely poem, a worthy theme and wonderful execution. I like how you handled this one-to get the point across.
