Small town America, fruit of the land, I know you better than anyone can, I’ve driven you’re roads and read your signs, Bought your clothes and eaten your food; played the fool While kissing your daughters; I have fished your waters. I have sat down beside the men who run your show, I have sweat in the sun and near froze in the snow, Been scoffed and applauded, Lied to, beat up, and cheated While down and defeated by the times. I held your god in the palm of my hand In the drive thru lane of McDonalds. It was green, and it smelled funny. |
