Little One

You are only 8 years old
And already so bold
Dress-up, crayons, tea parties and fun
Please don't grow up, my little one

Now at 14, you have so much to do
You are opinionate, and act like your life is through
If only you knew, it's just begun
I wish you still were, my little one

At 26 we don't hardly speak
Engaged to a man you met last week
You're tying yourself down, there's nowhere to run
You grew up so fast, my little one

36 and your life is through
I wish I'd have known, was there anything I could do?
I'd have taken your place, could it have been done?
Where did you go, my little one?

I love this one Alicia...A life of Rhyme Super.

May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out.

I really like this poem, but may I ask a question?  What happened at the end?

MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

Irish Blessing

This is lovely, I also want to know the ending!

Alicia this is pretty powerful.  How quickly they grow up and away.  Even into adulthood they remain our "little ones".

Powerful poem here, I really liked it. I'd like to know the ending too???

This poem was written for my cousin, in my aunt's point of view.  The poem was read at my cousin's funeral, and I didn't know how to add it, but my cousin died in childbirth.

 Hope,
