So many juveniles are sitting behind bars. When I asked why your reply was murder,stealing and jacking cars It's more then that but the world is to blind to see. This is more then just a game, this is reality. Molested by "family" when he was just five. Mother died, At twelve he was left alone to survive. His father has been in prison since he was just three. Raised in foster families not knowing who he would be. Rejected by his family so he joined a gang. He needed some one that he could claim. His gang was his family.They showed him love and cared. In any confrontation they were there. They taught him the things he needed to withstand life. Helped and guided him through all his strife. He did what they told him, he jacked a car but he is behind bars because he's emotionally scared. Who is to blame for this persecuted teen? Not his family or the schools but society as a team. < !signature--> Don't fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. I know too many children exactly in the positions you've describe. Welcome to our world today. It's a sad place. Great poem. Although I agree broadly with the thrust of your poem Fe, I also think to a point individuals control their own destiny. There are many treated in the same way you describe here who are NOT behind bars. I don't suppose we'll ever understand these things. I thought your poem made a point very well. Jon |

Very powerful poem. I don't believe blaming 'society', of which we are all a part, is right, though. As Jon stated, many with the same problems rise above them and make something of their lives. What determines a persons chosen path? I honestly don't know. Perhaps it may have something to do with their perceptions of life and their faith, or lack of it, in a Supreme Being. Just my thoughts. have you ever heard the saying "it takes a village to raise a child" We are all to blame....not as individuals but as a society. I'm not sayin that every kid that has these things happen to the ends up in bars but do some research because most of the kids that are behind bars have had some type of negative experience like the ones named in the poem. Angie, great poem and a great message, but can you blame it all on society ? I don't know, but I do ask myself often enough; "Why don't we take care of all the children ?" |

of course we cant blame it "all" on society but yes we can blame society. i mean of course we can blame the parent who were drugies but we can blame society for not having something done about the child living with drugies.We can blame the kid for doing bad stuff even though society let him grow up only learning the bad stuff. We can blame the schools for not teaching our kids good enough but we can blame society for letting our schools not teach good enough....feel me? |

Yes I "feel" you, but still think it's even more important to reach out and care as individuals. If we can find it within ourselves, society will return to a 'better' place as well.  |

we our society munda. so yes if we all,as individuals, reach out then we couldnt blame society but........... we aint helping out thats the problem so there for we can blame society.Its not just your problem or my problem or anyone elses individual problem its everyones problem. everyone = society. if its everyones problem everyone (society) is to blame for it |
