In my heart there's a big cluttered attic,
Holding treasures of every kind,
Hiding precious memories,
That are never too hard to find.
Sometimes they get covered with dust,
Or forgotten inside an old chest,
Perhaps they've been buried for many years,
But they always survive time's test.
When I take the rusty, bent skeleton key
And unlock that huge, aged door,
The family and friends of yesterday,
Come back into my life once more.
They help clear the lacy cobwebs,
And polish the tarnished brass,
Wiping away the layers of dirt,
From the cloudy looking glass.
The dressmakers form in the corner,
Comes to life in the blink of an eye,
As moths filter out of the pockets,
Of a jacket from days gone by.
It may not appeal to many,
This place where I reminisce,
But to me it's a old-time paradise,
Going back to those days that I miss.

BSC--Oh, this is absolutely wonderful!!  I really enjoyed reading this poem.  Memories are a wonderful thing.....bringing the past into the present.

"Unto thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night, the day; thou cans't not be false to any man."---Shakespeare

BSC,
Oh such Precious memories,
Just waiting to be reclaimed,
Just wipe off dust and web,
To rekindle their sweet flame!

Thanks for the attic tour, now I must return to MY spring cleaning! LOL Dennis :^)

I absolutely love this. The analogy is superb.

BSC,

I truly LOVED this.  Reminiscing can be such a wonderful, peaceful and happy time.  Cherished memories are things that no one can take from us.
