We met fifteen years ago while camping you see.
The bond happened instantly and irrevocably.
A retired police detective, discreet and true.
A man who would do almost anything for you.

A husband, a son and father of five,
who made all those around him, feel so alive.
Who lifted up spirits, when friends felt so blue;
and then when you spoke he would focus on you.

A craftsman with wood he would cut saw and hew.
Built a beautiful home to retire in it's true.
Every weekend were guests who would visit with him.
Sometimes then at our house he would spend some time

He said "Let's fix up your deck I'll help if I may."
"We'll finish tomorrow if not done today."
"What can I do to help you," a frequent request.
This man was surely one of the best.

One fateful New Year's eve, he was coming around.
He surely was suffering. but would not back down.
He joined in our party wouldn't disappoint me.
He never got home again, no more will I see
my hero, my best friend, and whenever I hear,
Amazing Grace played, I pretend he is near.

Jack

A wonderful tribute, I'm sure he would be happy to know he is immortalised in verse.

Jack--He is smiling down upon you, I'm sure.  What a beautiful way to remember him; I hope it helped some getting the words written.  Challenge well met!< !signature-->

What a beautiful tribute to a magical friendship

This is wonderful twinsgd, and as the others have said, his memory lives on in your heart warming verse.

this is a truly touching tribute very well done !!!

 Mystical being
which makes ink flow
Surround me in
your incandescent glow
Fill my brain with
thoughts and rhyme
As I try to capture
but a moment in time

Not only a beautiful tribute, but a wonderful description of the man. I almost feel I know him from your words, and what a wonderful person to have come into your life.

Many thanks to all who read and responded, your kind words are very much appreciated.
He was a good soul and dear friend, missed so very much. If you are fortunate enough to have such a friend be sure to tell them.....You never know. Again, many thanks.

Jack
