What state do I live in? Well, that I can't rightly say, For it seems that anymore That changes from day to day! You might think I'm well travelled Or that I really get around, But I really haven't moved in many years-- And yet many states, I've found. As a matter of practical necessity Different states I often visit, And freely glide from one to the next Where I can get the best benefits! Now, I'm not talking 'bout States of the Union Tho' there is some likeness, I note, But rather of my different States of Mind-- To explain, this poem I wrote. I seek a State of Contentment Tho' often to less I'm resigned, Like thinking I've reached New York But instead, New Jersey I find! A State of Fear is sometimes mine And panic attacks can come, Like free-falling without a parachute Out in the Colorado sun. Or I might seek a primitive State of mind And desire to hear nature's call, Just roughing it, in a backward way-- That's kinda like Arkansas! Sometimes I pass thro' a Fleeting State Not long staying at one span, There's just not much to it-- 'Lot like little Rhode Island. Sometime's my heart's so "O-HI-O" Sometime's it in an "Alasakian" Flurry, But at other times, I am brought low And then I'm in "Missouri!" My "Maine" point in all of this As you have prob'bly guessed, 'Cause of the many States of My Union-- I'm never bored--but Blest! "Our Creativity points to a Higher Creator--we couldn't have just happened, and for what ability we may possess--to God be the glory." -dlw- |

I really like this. I never looked at my different states of mind as being different locations of states. This is an interesting view and one I find myself trying to apply so that I may discover where I've been.  < !signature-->...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... Excellent way of looking at moods and as I read it I tried to think what State I could be in right now and all I can think is the North Pole cause it's the highest point and I feel so happy at this moment that that's all I can think of, anyway I like your poem and you know it's good when you get people thinking...Thanks |
