Every night I laid awake and prayed to Him alone.
"Dear God," I said, "please send to me a man to call my own."

They say He is a gentle one, full of love and care;
and for the sake of those who ask, He always answers prayer.

He always answers without fail, but in His own strong way;
whether "Yes," or "No," or "Maybe so," we are not the ones to say.

The years went by but no one came, and so I felt betrayed.
Why when I asked but one small task, could I not have my way?

Then one day I met a man with eyes sincere and true;
and finally did I understand, He was saving me for you.

**I posted this quite a while back in Open Poetry, but I wanted to post it here since this is where I've found a home.  Would that I could say this is a true poem........

This is a really nice poem. I am glad you reposted it cos I didn't see it first time around. I have only recently ventured into the open poetry and corner pub forums.

Love and hugs,
Lizzie
