This is the very first poem I have written in my life. I wrote it a few days after what happend in Columbine high school. I would really like your opinion on it, if you could.

WHO'S TO BLAME

Who's to Blame.
Little Johnny, playing Duke Nuk'em video game.
Is he a little young to be playing that game?
It's just a video game.

That night Johnny sees daddy threatening mom with a gun.
Who's to blame?

Billy get smacked across the head. "Don't hit your sister, that's not nice.
That night Billy sees Daddy punch mommy in the face.
Who's to blame?

Charlie and Bobby get caught drinking beer.
"You're too young to be drinking. It's not good for you. Don't do it again."
That night Charlie and Bobby see mommy drunk and passed out on the floor.
Who's to blame?

Wayne you leave daddy's gun alone its not a toy.
Put it away.
That afternoon, Wayne shoots his little sister.
Dead.
Who's to blame?

Katie comes home from school. Daddy and mommy and their friends sitting around smoking pot and shooting heroin. "Hi, mommy."" Katie go to your room."
That night Katie wants to try for the first time a hit of heroin.
Daddy helps her fix.
She dies.
Who's to blame?

Linda comes home excited. She got an A on her paper. Mom and Dad are talking together.
"Mom, Dad look at this." Mom yells, "Leave us alone, can't you see we're busy."
Linda gets ignored again...
and again...
and again...
That night Linda slits her wrists. Couldn't stand to be ignored anymore.
Suicide.
Who's to blame?

Boy goes to school, the kids hate him, teases him all the time.
Can't take it no more.
Gets a shot gun comes back to school, kills and injures others.
Then himself.
Who's to blame?

Who's to Blame?

TV, MEDIA, MOVIES, VIDEO GAMES?

No.

WE ARE...THE PARENTS!!!

We are suppose to guide our children through out their lives.
We are suppose to teach them from right and wrong.
How can we teach them, when we do the wrong.

WE ARE TO BLAME!!

Welcome to the Pub.  Very good.  I can't believe this is your first poem.  This is a very poignant piece of work.  We seek answers as humankind continues to spin out of control.  Who is to blame?

This is a very EYE OPENING piece, you have expressed the situation so well, Parents: this is your wake up call, Stop blaming society and start being the Guardians you were meant to be for your Precious children.
(I'm sorry, that soapbox just materialized on it's own), Great Job! Welcome to the Pub!

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish everybody held the common sense to see your point of view. I to blame the parents for not involving themselves enough in thier childrens lives to identify signs of troubles like you've mentioned. I would love to read a follow up on " Parenting, the right way ".  PLEASE

Thank you all for you kind words. I really appreciate you opinion on this piece. I would very much like to see it published one day in a magazine or something.
Oh and a follow up would be a great idea. I'll have to start working on that on.
Thank you for reading my poem and the welcome.

Dennis had expressed what I definately feel!

I am so tired of parents blaming everyone but themselves for what our children do.

It is MY responsibility to teach my children right from wrong, morals, ethics, etc.
It is also MY responsibility to exhibit the behavior that I expect of them.

And when my children get into trouble, it is MY responsibility to resolve the problems and/or stand by them when necessary.

VERY WELL WRITTEN!!

This is soooo true.  Addig to what everyone else has said, parents are their childrens' teachers and they give the example, the kids follow, values, what is right and wrong DOES come from parents or gaurdians.  Maybe society does play a part, but so do parents.  Great job, as said before, what you say is so true.

Welcome to the Pub. Great first post.

I live only 4O miles from Columbine High and I'm a gun owner, so this is very personal to me. I think you've said it right. I hate it when people always blame these things on guns--it's not guns--it's upbringing. I've never heard of anyone committing an act like this who came from a loving home. And although I'm not an NRA member, I've never heard of an NRA member's kid doing anything like this, nor ever heard of an NRA member holding up a 7-eleven. The majority of gun owners are very responsible people and instill that in their kids.

And that's my 2 cents worth.

~D.I.V.

This is your FIRST poem? I am impressed! What you have expressed here is SOOO true! You hit it on the nail, couldn't have been better to say. Only when parents step up to the plate and take full responsibility of their childre...will this madness stop. Thanks so much for posting this. We all can learn something from one another!

This is a great poem that I think a lot of people need to read. It would probably change a lot of people's point of view. It's natural instinct to copy others and too many parent's think that just telling kids right and wrong is enough but it has to be demonstrated too. You expressed your ideas really well and I'm glad to see you in the pub!
