There Walks a Lion

Of moment's breath, there walks a lion
Slithering through brush like snakes in sand
Amber ember gaze peering for hunter's thirst
Aching to slake that thirst in doe

Of chanced meeting, there flies a falcon
Loner's spirit drenched with sorrowful longing
Tipped with tan and brown, wings strong and free
To never hunt in fear of pain her heart may show

There walks a lion in a breath, meeting the flying falcon true
In an almost playful manner he teases
Until her heart he knew soon
Enchanting her spirit until nothing he was, she could let go

There came an end to that teasing manner of a kitten, loving warmth
When hunger took the lion to lash out at larger prey
Hurtling her to a rocky edge, born with scratches upon waking
Thundering, racing, injured heart aching, laced with snow

Gone were her sky dancing days of freedom's joy, though lonely tasting
Fearful of arching into a sky she knew bitterly well in stormy weather
After touching wingtip to Love's hand she knew the emptiness' depth
And so her spirit turned inward, Love in winter's stow

So I wander through the glades and fields, never part of the fleeing flock
Huntress born to fly, only to lie broken in a nest empty of life
Always watching in the grass, fearful, hateful, loving...wistful...she knows somewhere
There walks a lion

And someday, again, he may come back to me

"Sometimes stars can only be seen in darkness."

"Sorrow's crown of sorrow is remembering happier things."
