The wind it was howling
The rain it was thick
I looked at my father
My father looked sick
He put out his hand
And held me so tight
He said'Son you go home now
I don't need you tonight'

I walked down the lane
My head to the ground
The winter night biting
I was hearing no sound

I returned to my love
In her silken gown
I could see she'd been crying
The tears running down

The child he was born
As I sat on that bed
You have a son Jon
Span 'round in my head

Oh Daddy please don't go for I need you now
The baby he's crying .... and I've forgotten how

Now the child he is growing
Into a young man
We both try to help him
We just do what we can

He's bright and he's willing
As he touches the sky
He smiles like my father
Sometimes I could cry

Now my father is resting
We...can only sigh
But I know he can see us
With love in his eye

It was a gift from the heavens
That when he should die
Our family was blessed with
......A White Butterfly

Hope stands before you in many disguises
But be alert
Or she'll slip away.

Wow Jon!!  This is beautiful!  You have painted a lovely picture in the face of loss and saddness.
"He smiles like my father"....
I enjoyed the whole of this poem.  Good flow.  Great content.  Look forward to more.

Jon........this is a very lovely and touching tribute; would that he could read it (somehow I'm sure he's looking down on you right now with that smile).
