"Dream Lover"

I have this dream, still incomplete,
of a lover I have yet to meet--
In a flight of light; in a wave of the hand,
I find myself in a distant land.
Bound towards heaven, on a 747,
     I’m sitting in first-class with a glass
     of champagne and caviar.
I was mistaken for a movie star, it seems.
(After all, this is a dream).
As I walked off the plane, down that narrow crowded lane,
and through the twisting dim lit tunnel,
     I saw a star shine from heaven sent;
that of my friend at the other end.
I walked only a little while, for what seemed liked a mile.
Then, I saw the woman, whom I had never met,
holding a sign with my name printed in red.
As I approached her, I raised my head,
looked her straight in the eye and said,
     "Is baggage this way?"
Being the devil that I am, I walked on by
as I noticed her smile of anticipated delight
fall to a frown, of mistaken regret.
I stood from behind her, for just a sec,
then leaned over and gave her a peck.
She turned around dropping the sign on the ground
as she threw her arms around my neck.
With a tear dripping from her eye, she gave a sigh,
and at that moment, I thought I’d die.
For, my heart was pounding so loud,
I thought everyone around would hear it explode.
It was only compounded by the beat of her heart against my own,
reverberating, both hearts beating in rhythm;  two as only one.
Hundreds of people were standing around; yet, we were totally alone,
And for one brief moment in time, I had found my Dream Lover to call my own.
Then, as I went to kiss her softly on the lips, for one misguided second,
I glanced back at the tunnel from whence I came and felt an unrest in my essence.
In an instant, I was abruptly ripped from her breast and sucked back into the tunnel,
tumbling as I hurled though space.
I awoke on the other end to find myself instead, at my place;
     home, all alone in bed.
Now, each night before I fall asleep,
I pray to awake one morn,
     fulfilled of my yearning forlorn,
to find myself within my Dream Lover’s arms,
and never again look back for anything more.

A wonderful love to complete us.  Woe that it is just a dream!  You have written beautifully Gene, as always.

LOL Gene, I just gave up on real love. Perhaps I should try a dreamlover !
Sorry Gene, couldn't help myself.
This is a very well crafted piece, filled with a great sense of humour and wishes.
Great dream Gene, great poem and don't give up on finding that dream lover.

I like the way that you use a dreamlike sense to look for love!

Thanks, Kitty.

I'd rather find it for real.

Its a  shame
that dreams don't always come true.
I wish they did, not only for me
but for you.
I've had a similar dream.
so happy it seems.
Till you wake up
with the saddness it brings.
Give up on love?
I think not.
Sometimes dreams come true
or have you forgot?

Good luck to you Gene and i hope you find her soon. This is a great poem i could picture your dream in my head as if i was dreaming it. keep up the good work

twinsgd,
Thanks, but I think I'm trapped inside this dream.

Angie, Thanks for the wonderful little poem.

Just another?  I think not.
For, you’re unlike any other
or have you forgot?
You’re poetry and replies to me
are appreciated quite a lot.
I look forward to see
more from someone named Angie,
who goes by the title of just_another_fe.

Gene,
I loved this one.  Never let go of your dream. Sometimes dreams really do come true, and I hope this one does for you.

Gene...buddy, pal, friend......I know where you are.  Looking for love isn't so bad, it's the not finding it that's the killer.  I'm about to the point of swearing it all off for good.  Keep looking and let me know if there's any reason to continue to hope, OK?  I enjoyed reading this. (What would your zen master say?)
