I was doing my best to play dead,
Then I saw a poem someone wrote,
And the nice things that she had said.
I want to thank you, Janet Marie
For the lovely poem I just read.

So, I just thought I should make it clear
To those friends of mine, who might be wondering
Why I am no longer here.

I don’t mind having my post removed,
Especially, if it might have been taken as an offense,
But I only think it right, that I should have been
Given the chance to speak in my defense.
I just wish I knew
What it was that you Moderators
We’re talking about behind closed doors.
It seems you had an awful lot to say,
But never thought about ‘giving me the time of day.’

It really was annoying to receive all those e-mail notifications;
Not being able to reply or even read your accusations.

If you’re going to document complaints read about someone,
Then he/she should have the right to review that thread or discussion.

Why did they silence you, Gene? What was it that you posted that was so bad? I know I haven't seen you for a while and I'll bet that poem you were talking about was "Where's U_Gene"...but what did you do?

Just curious, hope everything turns out all right,

We both enjoy and welcome your poetry here at Passions. As you were contacted several times by email, both by Denise and by Ron, you certainly should understand the philosophy we hold about posts that glorify or depict suicide.  We simply don't admonish having them on the Passions boards.

If you have any further questions, we certainly are willing to discuss it with you further.

God Bless...
Nancy

Oh, so THAT's what happened! Now I get it...I think...

Haven't seen any poems about suicide lately, and I have read almost every poem at the Pub for the past couple weeks...

Hope you will give the pub another visit...there are many here who enjoy your company.

And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger
While the loneliness seems to spring from your life
Like a fountain from a pool.

Hi Gene, I'm glad to see you back. As I mentioned to you in my emails, I thought your poem was excellent in construction. The subject matter, however, was not appropriate for the forums as specified in the guidlines. Your response was requested by me in my emails to you. I never heard from you. There were no accusations raised by anyone against your poem. It was strictly my call. I asked the advice of the more senior Moderators, that was the only discussion.

I hope you stay with us here at Passions. You are a very talented poet and I enjoy your writing.

I have sent you another email, Gene, and I would love to hear from you!

Denise

Denise and Nan,

I'm not at all opposed to the removal of my post. I've removed people's posts myself, in forums that I moderate.  I realize my poem was very descriptive and maybe a little over dramatic--and could have easily been misinterpreted. But some of the greatest works of art in the world have been based around the same theme.  I think that ignoring the problems that angst-ridden teenagers have won't make them go away. By the same token, should we not talk to our kids about drugs?  Anyway, enough about that, I don't want to get into a debate on the philosophy of the forums.

I just wish you had simply removed my post, and that would have been the end of it--no big deal, but once you moved it to the Moderators forum then it became an issue. Can you understand how frustrating it was to receive all those e-mail notifications and not being able to respond or have any idea what was being said about me?  Yes, Denise, you sent me an e-mail saying that you thought it went against the guidelines, but Ron only sent me an e-mail after I asked him to.  In any case that's irrelevant.  It does no good to correspond via e-mail, only for you to tell me that it it wasn't apropriate.  I understand that.  I don't even mind if you talk about me behind my back.  What I do object to, is having people talk about me behind my back and then have them tell me that they're doing it, but not being able to defend myself.  It's like a slap in the face.  Frankly, I'm really offended by it--not personally--it's the way the forums are set up.

I run a UBB forum on my own site and I was also a Mod for a very well known UBB Host until he went out of business, so I do know something about moderating. I'm not trying to tell you how to run the forums, but if you want to discuss member issues with other Mods, then you should have a toggle to turn off the e-mail notification as well as the notification that it's been moved to a private forum.  With all the UBB hacks that they have done on the Passions Forums, surely, that should be a "piece of cake."

Maybe I'm making too much out of it, but at least hopefully, you understand my position and that I have no ill feelings towards you personally.

So, enough said, let's get back to writing poetry. And BTW, what do you think about my poem ?

Best regards,

Gene

Gene, believe me when I tell you that you were not being discussed at all. The content of the poem was, that is all. Plain and simple. I could have just deleted it without emailing you but I felt that would be rude. I always send an email if I am moving or deleting something. The reason for it being moved to the Moderator Forum was to remove it from the  view of perhaps sensitive eyes pending a final decision. Deleting a work is always a last resort and that is not taken lightly here at Passions. If a few days are needed to come to a decision like that, then Moderator is the only place to put it for that space of time. It does not mean that something or someone has become an issue. It is strictly a confidential process in the best interests of everyone.

In closing, I don't want you to feel that you were slammed in any way. You were not. Neither was your poem. Your poem had great creative merit. The content was the only problem. I hope you continue to share with us here, as we truly enjoy you and your work!

p.s. Regarding Ron not emailing you....that was my job as Moderator of the forum. He would only have gotten involved at my request. You chose to email him instead of me, that is how he came to be involved at that point in time even though he was out of town at the time. I hope this clarifies everything for you.

p.s.s. regarding your poem....you are a very talented writer, as I have told you often! Keep writing and I'll keep reading!

Denise
