God’s Creatures

We must respect all living things
Of God’s creation here on  earth
For every creature has a purpose
And a  true intrinsic worth

I always felt that I would honor
Even those that cannot think
Until I found a huge night crawler
Lying ‘cross my kitchen sink

Placed there by a five year old
Collecting bait for fishing day
It caused my vocal chords to make
A sound that echoes to this day

I do respect all living things
From slimy snake to furry mouse
But I cannot abide these creepy
Crawly creatures in my house

I marvel at a spider’s web
A splendor spun of God’s own pride
As long as that magnificence
Is on the window’s other side

A cat or dog who wonders in
Is placed with care across the fence
But crawly bugs are killed on sight
In terror and in self defense

A bug who enters my domain
Is doomed to death by weight of shoe
I ask that God forgive me for
These acts of vengeance that I do

I do respect all living creatures
All have purpose, all have weight
Until they come into my house
And meet their final tragic fate

Elizabeth, what beautiful prose!

  I marvel at a spiders'web,
A splender spun of God's own pride

Wonderful, simply Wonderful!
I am delighted by your vision and your mirth!

Elizabeth this poem is so cool!  By the second verse there was a giggle building in my belly.  By the third verse I was laughing out loud.  Your words flow smoothly and the topic was one we definitely all can relate to.  I absolutely love this!!!

Delightful, Elizabeth! Yep, I, too, can relate to this one!! They all have a right to live until the come into my domain!! I love your sense of humor, Elizabeth! It is refreshing!!

LOL Liz! I agree with the others, this is GREAT!
I like your sense of humor too and bugs tend to creep me out...of course, it's easily taken care of "in a flash" [of fi'ry light]... Wonderful descriptive phrases of the bugs and other animals!

I just hope you don't kill dragons on site...

Liz- Oh, oh, here I go again. I liked everything about this poem except for two lines:
It caused my vocal chords to make
A sound that’s heard until this day

It didn't seem to flow that well. Now I'm not the greatest at rhyming poems, but I think you might consider something like:
"It made me jump and give a scream
Twas' heard three counties away."

Again, I liked this poem and suggest you send it out to a fishing magazine. The editors would probably get a chuckle.
best regards,
bboog

Thanks everyone for your comments on this poetic masterpiece. BBoog, you are right. I didn't like that line either so I made a change. I liked your suggestion, But "Twas heard three counties away" would be out of meter with the rest of the poem. Thanks.
Liz
