-Memories-
By: Amy Kennedy

Memories of a different place, a different time
Racing faster and faster through my clouded mind
A chapter I thought I had closed forever...opened by a past that should have never been "spoken"
A heart that I thought I had mended, have come to realize is still alone and broken
So many things have changed, so much time has past
Days go by, but still the memories, they last
Hazy memories that I can barely recall, then some clear as a bell
Bitter sweet memories, the occasional happiness, all swirled together with memories of living hell
I have tried hard to erase the thoughts of you out of my head
But still the words play over and over again in my mind, the words that you said
"I love you, this is the best, it's the only choice thats right for you"
Why after all these years is it still hard for me to understand, even though I know it is so very true
Childhood memories, dreams that were shattered
A heart that was broken, beaten, and battered
And the hands of time keep marching on
Dawn turning to dusk, dusk turning to dawn
I close my eyes, and wish this pain away
To save it for a time, for when I'm having a stronger day
However, I can not erase the past, try as I might
I can't hold on much longer, about to lose this fight
Though I am happy now, and things are fairly calm
Still the memories in my head, they continue on and on

This poem was written about a year ago when I was having a really difficult time. The theme behind this is my adoption. Though I have moved on, there are times that the "memories" haunt me and play in my mind. Thanks to all who read and/or respond.

AMY

Okay Amy, my turn to cry....And seeing how sensitive and loving you are - just in your poetry and comments to others....what a beautiful gift you were...

Amy girl this one is excellent...very well written and expressed. I can only imagine what these emotions must be like...(actually I do relate in a different way...another poem, another time)(smile)
but I'm sorry you have had to go thru this...
this poem expresses your pain with grace.
AND you KNOW I was smiling big time when i read Sheilan's reply to you...
(told you so)...LOL...
take care sweets, janet marie

You're going to hear my voice in the morning calling your name
And know my love and my desperation were one and the same...
Baby it's alright...
Take this pain and all this sadness
It's alright
Take this rain
You're going to be free...

Wow...
If I could convey emotion this well, why I'd probably be in the top posters of Passions! Beautifully written, Amy!   Made me cry the first time I read it through...this really is a great piece, I'm glad you put it up here for all of us to see.

You guys are the best! Really know how to make a girl smile! Thank you....

Rich pa...glad you liked...

Janet, well girl what can I say..glad you liked this! this was the hardest poem i've ever written...a lot of emotions come with it, but it was good for me to do too.   thanks for being so kind.

Spyro, wow! you have no idea how your words just touched me. However I think you give me too much credit, however thank you! That was one of the sweetest things anyone has ever said about a piece of my work. Oh BTW do not short change yourself, u are quite good! Thanks so much...

Love ya'll

It seems as though this was a really hard thing to write and I congratulate you on doing so. It was very beautifully expressed and full of emotion. Thanks for posting it here.
