This poem was inspired by our new member William...Welcome to "The Corner Pub".  I was so inspired by your poem about the Corps, that I just had to write something about my own experience as a soldier.  It may not compare to what you've been through in your life, but my entrance was another changing point in my life.  --Jamie

"A Soldier Born"

As I flew on the plane
With my ticket in hand
I thought of the honor
In this great piece of land

I thought of the soldiers
And the battles long past
Wondering how the World
Recovered so fast

I landed in South Carolina
A place foreign to me
And walked up to the soldier
Who stood waiting for me

I sat in that Airport
For what seemed like hours
Soon I was surrounded
By the presence of others

So many young people
Who gave up their freedom
To protect and support
All those countries that need them

We walked into Reception
And were issued our gear
Given vaccinations
As we choked back our fear

We were then shipped to Basic
And were told without hesitance
That we now belonged to those
In the sharp hats at the entrance

They yelled and they screamed
We did nothing right
We ran for miles and miles
And we learned how to fight

For the first time in our lives
We knew pain and oppression
Dropping at the shout of 'Push'
At the Drill Sergeant's discretion

We rucked and we rucked
And we carried our rifles
Popping open our blisters
In the distance of miles

But we learned to obey
And we learned to prevail
Pushing our bodies and minds
So that we would not fail

And in the end of that time
We looked our best
As we marched past our relatives
Displaying precision and excellence

As I looked around
That Graduation Day
I saw the faces of those friends
I'd met on the way

No longer was I alone
In this life I'd been given
We were all now an Army
With a purpose and mission

Defending the Freedom
We had all given up
So that someday our children
Would have this Country to grow up

 She says baby,
It's 3am I must be lonely,
When she says baby,
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes,
Says the rains gonna wash away I believe it.

I love you baby... always.*

I agree with Janet Marie!
This is great--there's no debate,
Equal to anything I've ever written,
You make some of my work look flea-bitten! lol

Well, I don't know about that, I think my poetry's sort of good...but this is really really good! Thanks for the read Jamie and keep up the great work!
