                   A GOOD MAN

My question seemed to amuse him,
And he answered with his usual grin.
Well Butch, I'm about 35 or so,
It's hard to believe that took place 60 years ago.

He is gone now, has been for years,
I think of him often, and sometimes it brings tears.
But time has eased a lot of the pain,
And we know life goes on, just not quiet the same.

The memories he left me, I will quietly cherish,
And his leathery face, from my mind will not perish.
For I will always remember his old cowboy ways,
And the courage and honesty, that ruled his days.

He didn't leave much to show after he was gone,
That is if you count material things, and so on.
But he left one prize that I am proud to claim,
You see he left me his good and untarnished nam

This poem is great! The emotion really shows in this, and great rhythm too!

Good job Bill
A very touching tribute indeed. And no-one is truly gone as long as they live on in someone's heart. Keep writing!
