it flittered from the pine
to it's new perch,
one of the earth's
prosthetic limbs,
a shaft of steel and light
and it stood like a monarch
elegantly
head held high
silhoutted against
azure fields
filled with fluffy white flowers
seemingly looking
over it's territory
-keeping an eye on
it's little fench friends
who hopped about playfully
avoiding oblivious feet
and speeding cars-

then came the enemy
riding on midnight wings.
and the call was sounded
and the pilots ready
pitting theirselves
in a minaiture dogfight
little grey birds
outnumbering
their large black enemy,
a dart-
a peck-
deathdefying
tumbles and rolls,
negative g's,
inverted arcs,
an ageless battle for the skies
the little ones
unrelenting
in their attack
until they reclaimed
those azure fields.

and that one
-i believe it was that one-
gracefully returned
to it's perch
as if nothing had happened.

I liked this.  Your descriptions are really good in this poem.  I liked your ending the best.

"and that one
-I believe it was that one-
gracefully returned
to its perch
as if nothing had happened."
