~Learning The Art of Denial~

When your mind keeps searching for the reasons...
and your heart just wont let it be,
Do what I do when all gets to be too much--
I'm an expert on denial, take it from me.

When life gives you more than you can handle...
when things happen that your mind cant conceive--
teach yourself to pretend it don't matter,
Denial gives your heart a much needed reprieve.

Some mistakes are just too hard to get over...
would you even know if you'd been deceived,
Its just like a small child's imagination,
Denial allows your soul to once again breathe...

Janet Marie

 I love you
Is all that you can't say-
Years gone by and still...
Words don't come easily
Like I love you, I love you...
But you can say baby...
Baby can I hold you tonight
Maybe if I told you the right words
At the right time you'd be mine...

How true and it works for a little while at least! Very well voiced.

Yep, I've been there. I think it is a safety valve 'till you are able to deal with it. Great poem, Janet Marie!

Oh yes, I know this 'denial' bit all too well Janet, believe me.  It was almost like you were writing it from watching me 4 years ago.  Thank you for sharing this piece...I am very thrilled that someone saw it the same way I did so many years ago (even though it didn't work entirely for me).    < !signature-->

 "...I am alone
Lost in my memories
There's nowhere left for me to hide
But I am not real
I've made all I am with lies
Why can't you see my need for forgiveness?
The truth and the lies so confused as one
I don't believe in anything sacred
So why do I feel so damn alone?
I need someone to break the silence
Screaming in my head, and in my soul..."

I definitely agree denial can be a safety net for all those times that you just don`t feel ready to play the cards you`ve been dealt.
Great poem.

once a good poem
has been added to it."

Janet Marie, I thought I was the expert on denial and now it turns out there are two of us !   My mother used to call this "ostrich policy" LOL
Will we ever learn.....

Great poem !

Very good and - truthful Janet Marie.  Although some of us are experts at denial - I believe we've all had a chance to try our hand at it!!
