‘THE CHALLENGE’

His accusers all were waiting;
There was nothing he could do.
His fear was strong, though he'd done no wrong;
The charges just weren't true.

I watched him face the challenge,
Afraid that he would break,
That he'd explode beneath the load
And make his worst mistake.

The charges were presented
And the consequences read.
The judgment faced, completely based
On what "somebody said".

He kept his calm demeanor
And reacted like a man.
He went back through just what was true
And told his tale again.

He answered for an hour
With maturity and tact,
I watched with pride as he told his side
And forced them to retract.

With the charge now in abeyance,
He walked out, head held high.
No guarantee of how he'll be,
But he'll have a chance to try.

This is dedicated to someone close to me, who has just been through an ordeal such as described above, and who will have a difficult time in the weeks ahead. But I am very proud of how he's reacted under stress, and I'm sure he will succeed in the end.

I hope he sees this, and is comforted by how much everyone concerned cares about him. You would all be proud of him too, I'm sure. Perhaps later, I'll tell you all who he is.

Excellent poem! I would indeed like to know more of the story if you can elaborate. Good job!

Exile,

Excellent poem! We're all left in suspense. Hopefully, you'll be able to write a happy ending and then share it with us.

Yeah, I'd like to see a happy ending to this just like everyone else. I've had some of my friends tell me that I specialize in them, but I can't really help you on this...

I wish good luck to your friend, whoever he/she is, and [need I say it again? I guess I do--] Excellent poem!

Thank you all for your kind comments. Yes, I will indeed keep you all posted on how the story unfolds.

Little Spyro, I really hope that you CAN help me with this happy ending, as you are uniquely qualified to do so!

Beautiful!!!

MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

I hope this becomes a 'happily ever after" tale.

Lovely poem, hats off to your friend, I'll pray for him.
