"The Light"

The light break through my window today,
In a most delightful, but disturbing way.

As I lie in bed, not quite yet awake,
It softly, gently kissed my cheek.

Then, from under the covers, I did peek,
And saw a vision unlike others.

As I slightly opened one eye, still bleary,
I received an entity, I could neither deny nor query.

It was the woman of my dreams.
That lovely angelic face--a complexion of peaches and cream.
Her shimmering hair--spun of silken gold,
And a figure--even Michelangelo could not sculpt,

I rubbed my eyes in disbelief, sat up, and took gulp.
Then, with a moan, I reached to take her hand, but felt only the flesh of my own.

For that vision, that beautiful apparition, that I had yearned for so long,
Was only my innermost desire forlorn, for the woman I had once scorned.

If I were a man, I'd fall in love immediately with this picture you paint with your words.Sad how it ended though : (
By the way.....loved your Dutch !

Sometimes we don't appreciate someone until we can't have them anymore....we humans are pretty screwed up sometimes!

Gene,
this is a beautiful descriptive poem.
you described a lovely vision.
take care, janet marie

Some things cannot be explained by verses that rhyme,
They are not measured by the commitment of time.
Some emotions run too deep to be described by words,
Forgiveness and understanding-
remain the most beautiful words ever heard.

What a wonderful poem...paints a mean picture for me.  Guess my ex-fiance probably feels like you do, but he was the one that did the scorning too...  *sigh*  --Jamie

afraid the day will come
and I'll wake up and find you gone.
But you promise that you'd not abandon me
and kissed my fears away
but I woke up to that day..."

This was great Gene!  I could see your image of a woman in the sunlight as if I were there, just waking up too.  (Although I probably wouldn't have the connection you do.)

What a beautiful poem.  Your vivid descriptions allow the reader to envision the images.

I know people who feel this way.. I don't pity them, though.. Love the way you paint with your words..

MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

The scorned one now haunts your dreams, huh?
This is very good Gene.
