"Saturday"

It isn’t often, but it does occur,
Sometimes my life seems a total blur.
One day fading into the next,
It often has me quite perplexed.

Monday, Tuesday or is it Wednesday now?
When did I get here?  Please tell me how.

Even the months come all too soon.
Once, when it was July, I thought it was June.

And yet, the years seem to fly by.
The older I get, the quicker they come.
Is it Two Thousand--or Two Thousand and One?

But sometimes, it comes as a pleasant surprise
When I learn that it’s Saturday instead of otherwise.

____

"It often comes to me at night
When lights are dim
And thoughts are bright.

As I ponder what to write,
Take pen in hand And with it make
My words appear as no mistake.

Guided by a force unknown,
I create a new And wondrous poem." ~Gene~

A fine poem, Gene, and certainly one I can identify with.

I think the speeding up of time happens as we get older, and is less appreciated by the very young (such as our resident Dragon), for whom time often seems to move so slowly.

Good use of rhyme! I never would have thought  of "next/perplexed".

Your talent is amazing, Gene. I'd never expect you just started writing judging from you work! It's so much fun, too, isn't it?!

Exile, thanks much. Yeah, it should be just the opposite--time should slow down as we get older--quicker when we're younger--kids are always in such a hurry to grow up. I'm in no hurry to get older.

Denise, yes, a lot of fun. I love it. This morning I wrote two poems in the shower. Well, actually, I waited to get out of the shower to jot them down, but still dripping wet, I no sooner had the two of them on paper when a third popped into my head. I'm more amazed than anyone.

Thanks,
Gene

Thank whoever or whatever is keeping track of things up there among the clouds that tomorrow IS Saturday!

This is a fun poem, Gene!
And yes, I agree with the others, you've got amazing talent...only wish I had some too...

Sam I mentioned it somewhere else, I've got something special for you coming soon.

Munda Thanks, I love what you're doing in the Workshop. I'll be stopping by soon to add my 2cents worth.

Chris Thanks and welcome to Passionate forums. I read your poem in Open#5. I'll reply to it as soon as I can.

PdV Thanks. I'm the co-founder of Infinity. I designed and wrote everything on my Web-site. I've spent the last two years doing nothing but that. Although, I lay everything out in my Word document then have a Webmaster put it into html and upload it for me. Soon, I will have a page of quotes and poems relating to the concept of infinity--just trying to soften up a very technical site--it's what got me interested in poetry.

A very inspired poem . . . great thoughts clear and concise.  You are quite a poet and I admire your ability to share your thoughts and feelings so easily.

Hey, this is Saturday, isn't it?  Loved this poem--your personality seems to sing when you write--so pure and real.

Martie,

That was an incredibly sweet thing to say. If that's how you see it then I've done my job, because that is exactly what i was hoping to achieve with my poetry.

Thanks much,
Gene

Working graveyards I can identify with this very well...    Great work..

MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

Excellent Gene.  Time slows down for no one and, if anything, seems to speed up when we least want it to.
