A man I knew had committed a crime
Against his nation's laws
He was given a little bit of time
Before he died by a beast's awful claws...

Time passed quickly, then came the day
When the man was to be killed
Others prepared to take away
The cages' gates as the stadium filled.

The crowd had gathered, the people saw
The doomed-to-be-dead criminal
Though he had so gone against the law
The pain he had caused was minimal.

So just then the gates' lock was released
And the man stood there in fear;
Then came out the terrible beast
And the animal drew very near...

"Hey, how's it going?" it whispered to him
And relief the poor man sighed--
He put his arms around the dragon and then
He knew for sure that he would not die.

You see, this man had saved before
The creature that by which he would die
And in the arena with a thousand or more
The two of them began to cry.

Yes, I still remember that time
And also his embrace--
He'll always be in this heart of mine
And I'll never forget his face.

"Treat others how you wish them to treat you."
Matthew 7:12

Just like Androcles. I love it.

"He put his arms around the dragon..." It must of been a "little dragon" (get it?) if he could fit his arms around it.

I really enjoyed this poem. Very nice.

It's incredible, the way your Dragon character evokes such varied emotions in these poems.....from Adventure to pathos to fear to exultation....

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you can do when you start honing your skills, and combining discipline with your obvious talent. I agree with the ones here who feel you'll be well known someday, and we can say that we knew you when....
