"Nothing More to Say"

And when it came time for him
To leave this planet Earth,
He lie in bed and contemplated
His entire worth.

His life, so complete, having no regret,
That with his last dying breath,
Uttered these final words…

"I’ve thought it over and I have nothing more to say."

Then silently, he slipped away.

And now, although he may be gone,
His silent words, still live on.

And when you think of him,
I hope a smile comes to your face.
Allow his words to comfort you
As if his arms embrace.

And when you do, you might recall,
He never really talked that much,
But, boy!  He said it all.

____

Note: I wrote this in memory of a great man--my father.

"It often comes to me at night
When lights are dim
And thoughts are bright.

As I ponder what to write,
Take pen in hand And with it make
My words appear as no mistake.

Guided by a force unknown,
I create a new And wondrous poem." ~Gene~

What a beautiful tribute to your father, I like it very much

By the way, I noticed you've added your "new poem" as signature.

Oh, what a wonderful tribute to him this is!
I'm sure he would have loved it! It reminded me of my Dad for he too was a man of few words...but every one of them was a gem!

Wow...sometimes I wish I could write something like this...I'll bet your dad would be honored if he saw it--hey, for all you know, he's reading it now

Beautiful, beautiful piece.

Thanks all,

I appreciate it. This one is probably my favorite so far and one that is very dear to me. Yet, ironically, this was the easiest to write. I did it in about five minutes.

Gene, this is absolutely beautiful, your father sounds like a great man, and I am sure he is proud!  I have found personally that most of the poems I write that I find I like (which is very few), I have written in 10 minutes or less.  I find that sometimes the best poems are ones that we get out the fastest.  But thats just me!  This is beautiful Gene and I am glad I wandered in here to be able to read it!

Just be glad I'm not your child! *evil grin*

Whenever I write poems about people I love, I always seem to like those the best!

I'm glad I crossed this page.. It's a wonderful, wonderful tribute to your father..

MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

Irish Blessing
