I've just found this place, and looking through here am a little intimidated...my stuff isn't nearly this good. Little Spyro and Joy communicate emotions so well.

But I will put one up here to see what the rest of you think:

TO BE A MAN

From my earliest day,
I've found my own way
And relied on myself for my needs.
Girls and infants can cry,
But my eyes MUST stay dry;
It's in silence, alone, a man bleeds.

Work
and worry,
Hurt
and hurry,
These are the days of a man.
Defend those who
Depend on you,
Because you know that you can.

To pursue what I lack,
I once turned my back
On the helpless ones in my care.
But when I had learned,
I finally returned
And found I had much to repair.

When a man tries to feed
What he thinks he might need
And neglects the tasks set in place,
He will find himself hollow,
With no clear road to follow,
And ending up flat on his face.

So, men, keep to your road,
And shoulder your load.
This is what I hope to teach.
Think of THEM, and stand tall!
I will say this to all,
But my sons
are the ones
this must reach.

Yeah, all true...very true--even though I'm only 14, about 99% of that stuff applies already!
Great poem, Exile, and welcome to Passions!

Oh and another thing--expect a reply to all your poems from dsnyder (Denise)!

Thank you all very much indeed for your kind comments. I wish they were better deserved.

It's more doggerel than poetry really; more Robert Service than Robert Frost. But if you're interested, perhaps I'll try another.

Again, your kindness and your welcome are most appreciated.

Such an emotional poem. I read it over and over again and hope it will reach the ones you truly wrote it for. A great translation of feelings. Thanks for sharing.

Prune ye my vines and fig trees,
With care my flowerets tend,

Very nice, Exile. You have nothing to be intimidated about.

I'm new too and think this forum might be a little less hectic than Open#5.

*bows*  My hat's off to you.. This was wonderful...

MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND
