It took six days to create the world
And a seventh day to rest
And He watched as all life unfurled
His work being the very best.
There was all from giraffes to frogs and squid
And of course, the infamous snake
And later on He sought to be rid
Of this creature whose trust did break.
Fast forward in time a few thousand years
And you'll see the serpent's descendants--
A creature respected, worshipped, and feared
And of whom there are very few remnants.
In Europe this creature was hated and loathed,
And it was the sign of most that's not good;
Those poor relatives never got to show
Their compassion--they would if they could...
In China of old they were very revered,
A symbol of rulers and such;
But some were afraid as these animals drew near
And their fear rose far too much.
In Biblical text this creature appears
As a threat to His holy throne;
And throughout the world, every few years
They appear only once, and alone.
These creatures are dragons, you may have guessed,
And often will not be observed;
And if you've seen one you have not seen the rest
Every sighting is one well deserved.
But do not tell others of what you saw
If you do you might just make a friend
For being unknown is what dragons do
But they can help you a lot in the end.

Wow! This is great! Quite talented writer you are, Sam, at such a young age, too!

Cute little dragon, Nan!
