(Silent night)
Homeless woman, ragged sight.
(Holy night)
Near froze, beneath a city light.
(All is calm)
Gold in pockets passing by,
(All is Bright)
She is homeless, soon to die.
(Round yon virgin , mother and child)
To hold her close, she has no other.
(Holy infant so gentle and mild)
Eyes closed, with thoughts of mother
(Sleep in heavenly peace)
On this night was Christ the child
(Sleep in heavenly peace)
Born to Mary meek and mild,
(Silent night)
For this wretch, relief to send?
(Holy Night)
Or did he leave that work for men?

note:
Poems can bring up sad, as well as happy images, especially when Christmas is near. The image of sadness is present yearround in the minds of the homeless,..I think of homeless women first, I am a sexists in that way...I want to help them, but all I can do is write about them....with as much emotional expresion as I can muster.

My dear Ford, I think you do help them
by writing of them
and making it apparent that even
a "common poet" such as myself
would rear up and say
OMG, did he really see that?

And know that you have, and do,
and make it not only your gift to me
to make a change, but for me to pass
on the change as well.

Thank you, my friend, and in this
paraphrased say,
may you enjoy the Merriest of Christmases
as you continue to change the world.
