The Legend of "la flor de nochebuena"...
The Flower of Christmas Eve

Eva was a sweet girl, giving her best always.  Being poor, in a small Mexican village, her best was what came from her heart, nothing that
could be bought.

But it was Christmas Eve, and as she headed for church that evening,it suddenly struck her just how poor she was.
She had no gift to place before the alter of the Virgin and Her Glorious Child.

She walked along, as tears of sorrow flowed.  She loved her Savior, He gave her so much, and she had nothing to give in return.

She spoke a small prayer into the chilly evening air, "Dear God, I have no gift to give your Son, please forgive me."

Suddenly, an Angel appeared, and Eva fell to her knees.
"Arise, dear child" the Angel spoke.
"Gather these weeds from the side of the road, and
take them to the Alter."

Eva didn't understand, weeds for the Christ child?

Humbled, she did as she was told, for something was
better than nothing, and this Angel was a miracle!

She arrived at church, with her wilted bouquet of weeds. As Eva walked down the isle, she bowed her head, chin to chest.
Hearing whispers of the other parishioners...voices
full of pity, or rage and disgust, Eva silently cried.
As each tear dropped from her cheek, and fell upon a weed, it burst forth into a starry crimson flower.
One at a time, they sprouted, until she reached the alter with hands full of beautiful blooms.

With a shy smile, she laid her precious gift
at the feet of Mary.
"For you, now and forever, Mother and Child,
la flor de nochebuena."

Very good version of the Poinsettia Legend.  It was refreshing to read it again through another's eyes and pen.
