passing through review
soldiers in dress uniforms
march with precision
the honor guard presents arms
Old Glory in red white and blue

John Philip Sousa
stirs embers of fire’s passion
old eyes swell with pride
memories of battles fought
prayers for those who lie silent

tall and majestic
big as mountains vast as plains
rich in golden grain
the American spirit
a hymn to the republic

This is a wonderful tribute to Memorial Day, and I sincerely hope that you post this on the main board, as it appears not too many people read poetry posted to holidays on the holiday board, which seems really strange, at least to me.  Now...were I an American, which of course I am not...I would raise my little Memorial Day flag to you, as this was a wonderful tribute to Memorial Day, and a wonderfully done poem (p.s. I love Sousa, makes me want to march right on the spot!)

Beautiful tribute to Memorial Day. I enjoyed it.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily
