The gifts are wrapped with bows
All nestled under trees
Children smile happily
Upon Santa Claus' knee.

The sidewalk streets are lined
With Christmas lights and bows
The streets are full of people
Rushing quickly to and fro.

The cat lays by the fire
Curled sweetly into sleep
The turkey's fresh aroma
Around the rooms slowly sweeps.

Fresh snow lies in the park
Topping trees and pathways there
A man lays on the bench
Sleeping out in brisk cold air.

His clothes are torn and worn
The years show on his face
He digs within the garbage can
For some food to eat today.

A business man walks by
Pretends he does not see
The wrinkled poor old man
Begging on his knee.

The heart is made of flesh
Revealing who we are
Made of flesh with love to share
Or stone and selfish hard.

The true self can be known
By more than what we say
Our actions speak much louder
Than our words to day to day.

Your poem rings loudly with the same sentiments as mine! It's good to know that others have the same concerns. This is why I felt I should re-post in this forum!
I really like the way you show images of gifts, Christmas lights, bows and comfort, before you send a clear message of reality for many in need! Very well done!

Very sad, but it's true that people focus on what they want to see.
