After I posted this poem in the Corner Pub, I realized that It might have been more appropriate here! I hope nobody minds if I post it again!
The Christmas Angel
He almost missed her standing there,
outside the alleyway,
as he was shopping in the square,
alone on Christmas day.
Her clothes were worn, her feet were bare,
and much to his dismay,
a hint of snow was in the air,
the sky was turning gray.
She looked at him, through tangled hair,
a homeless, unloved stray,
and in her eyes he saw a prayer,
and all that it conveyed.
Life he thought, is quite unfair,
an outrage, I dare say!
Then having no more time to spare,
he hurried on his way.
Other people, unaware,
strolled by without delay,
caught up in their own affairs,
this joyful holiday.
Godís mercy is it anywhere?
Kind spirits, where are they?
To help another in despair,
and take the pain away?
Will no one find the time to share
and give her what they may?
Or offer more than just a glare,
for that which they survey?
Will she be left, to sadly stare,
upon the bright display,
of selfishness, and Christmas flair,
Abandoned to the cold night air,
this little angel lay,
and waited for the world to care
on this, most holy day.
