Christmas Eve is here again
And I feel a twinge of sorrow
Although the day of God’s birth
Is coming in the morrow

As I gaze up at the stars
My pain is clearly shown
As I think to Christmas Eve
Eleven years ago

That day was clear and cold and bright
You had called an hour before
That night, my mother told me
That I couldn’t see you anymore

A fire was ravaging your old home
You raced to save our toys
Our gifts, more important than your life
You died to give us joy

It gave us so much sorrow
It gives us sorrow still
Guilt consumes my cousins and I
I guess it always will

None of us were there with you
What you were thinking, we’ll never know
The medics say you said a prayer
Before you had to go

The next day was Christmas Eve
But all we felt was pain
And from then on, every holiday since
Has never felt the same

I sigh, and look up at the stars
Even those must die!
Eyes dimming with painful tears
I lower my head to cry

Some stars only lose their light
And die with a quiet sigh
But some send light flying everywhere
Those stars can never die

Now I see what you really are!
Your light can still be seen
It lives in the ones you touched and loved
It shines on… in me

I gaze upon the stars awhile
With all my sorrow gone… I smile

This is a true story. I wrote this for my grandfather, who passed away 11 years ago on Dec. 23. His light still shines on... Thanks for reading!

False gems may shine as brightly as the genuine article, but there are always those who can tell the difference.

Erica, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. You were obviously very young when he died, but his light truly does shine on in you. I'm sure that he is watching over you and your family and that he loves this poem you wrote for him.

God bless,
Elizabeth

Lovebug~
winged ~HUGS~ floating your way sweetie
this is so terribly sad and so tragic a story, I feel for you very much
Tracie~

I wonder what you're up to
I wonder where you are
I wonder if that's you tonight
That shiny bright new star

I think about you constant
My thoughts often drift to you
Drifting to your loving face
Your eyes of crystal blue

Always in my heart
Never too far away
Endlessly a part of me
Always there to stay

hon I wrote this for my nan when she passed away and today it is a gift from me to you
Love and ~HUGS~ to you
Tracie~

Hi, sorry to hear about your grandfather.

You know, I tend to look upon stars as people whom we have loved, shining down upon us... guiding, protecting... makes me feel better sometimes.    Lovely tribute.  Take care.
