Santa Claus had caught a cold,
In his hand did hanky hold,
Had the sniffles, had a cough,
Much too ill, red jammies doff.

As he lay in his warm bed,
                Santa cried, "my aching head,"
Mrs. Claus was at wits end,
Knew where she'd like to Santa send.

When Santa's sick, he is a grouch,
Of this fact, reindeer will vouch,
As well the elves, who know to run,
When Santa's ill, he is no fun.

Then at the door, there came wee knock.
No louder than a clock's tick tock,
                Santa bellowed, "Go away,
I'm much too sick, to work today."

But then again, there came wee knock,
No louder than a clock's tick tock,
"Santa Claus, it's just wee elf,
There's no one else, I'm by myself."

"Well, come on in, and make it quick,
Don't you know that Santa's sick?
                This best be, important news,
Or my wee elf, your job, you'll lose."

Wee elf he shook, like Charo's hips,
No goochie goo, though on his lips,
As tiptoed to sick Santa's bed,
And gazed upon not jolly head.

"Speak up now you tiny smurf,
Before you're left on tundra's turf."
Then from the bed, a loud ACHOO!!
And out the window, wee elf flew!

A sneeze so loud, it shook toy shelves,
In work shop, and scared the elves,
(It has been said, a Santa sneeze,
is strong enough to flatten trees.)

Wee elf rose as arrow's flight,
He rose into the arctic night,
When Rudolph saw wee elf go by,
Said, "Didn't know wee elf could fly."

Poor wee elf, was shot so far,
                Laplanders saw, a shooting star,
Tumbling through the sky so blue,
                Landing on a caribou.

Santa jumped out from his bed,
Hitched up Rudolph to his sled,
Went in search of elf so wee,
Wondering where wee elf could be.

They found wee elf beside a tree,
Fast asleep for all to see,
"Wake up wee elf, it's time to go,
Back to North Pole, now don't be slow."

Wee elf awakens, starts to rise,
                Stares up into Santa's eyes,
Starts to speak, with voice polite,
                Says to Santa, "Gesundheit."

This was soooooooo cute. I laughed out loud when I envisioned wee elf being blown away by a sneeze out the window. Wonderful!

Mike, all your Wee Elf poems are absolutely charming and delightful. I really hope you consider putting them together and have them published. They would make a wonderful childrens' Christmas book!!  In the meantime, I'd like to print them out for my grandchildren!! They will love them!!
