Who doesn’t cry on the Fourth of July
when Old Glory so proudly waves?
Whose heart doesn’t pound at the very sound
of ten guns at the warrior graves?
Do you feel a slight chill with hand over heart
as the Star Spangled Banner is played?
Does a tear trickle, down your cheek
seeing Vets march in a parade?
Does the sight of a child clutching a flag
make you hopeful for the future of man
Do you feel pride in your birthright today
from whence this greatness began?
If you answered yes to all the above
if your country you will defend
then you are the greatest of patriots,
a true American, my friend.

Ah, yes PdV....I guess being the offspring of two VERY patriotic parents and having 3 brothers who were in the military, yeah, I'm always touched by all of the above.  This is beautiful, Happy 4th of July and...God Bless the USA       Bonnie

I really love the way you put this question. I do so appreciate our country. The other day a veteran was collecting money for them and it felt so good to thank one of our soldiers in person. Ellie

PoetdeVine...Sorry, I just saw this one. It is superb..enjoyed it greatly!!!!  As a vet myself I want to thank you very much.

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.

Althought I am not an American, the same sentiment holds true here in Canada.  We don't seem to have the big remembering of the veterans you do until Rememberance Day, but we celebrate our heritage just the same.  Even still, a very pprould poem for any American to read and be proud of.

I think this one can be brought back up to the top in honor of the 11th. To me, the same sentiments hold true. Extremely well done, Sharon.

God bless America, my home sweet home.
