Another Mother’s Day is here
Time to put on that smile
Pretend that you’re a loving mom
You haven’t that in a while

My friends all have fond memories
Mom’s tender loving care
Those memories elude me
Were you even there?

No hugs, no kisses, no caring
I existed on my own
Biding my time til I could leave
That cold, passionless home

When I became a mother
I remembered what to do
I hugged my kids every day
And told them I loved them too

On Mother’s Day I celebrate
Not what you have given me
But for the fact that I became
A better mother than you could be.

Poet deVine,
Wow...this is powerful.  Sorry you did not have the love you sought from her growing up, but very glad to see you learned from her mistakes...that in itself is priceless.  This is superb writing filled with such strong emotion, Sharon.  Thank you for sharing it here.

deVine, this is very powerful. . . the words ring with pain and lessons learned. . . glad that you did learn from those mistakes and didn't let your own life have those same failings. . .

Superb my friend. . .

Could sure relate to this poem. I tried very hard to write a lovely Mothers Day poem , but found I couldn't. It all came out bitter.  You have done a beautiful job, while getting the message across.Shall we tackle Fathers Day now??!!
