You arrived and said you had something to ask me
Not loving you I wondered what it could be
as you stuttered and stumbled through your words
your eyes clouded over and I knew you couldn't see

I was pregnant and it wasn't your child
you see we'd only been friends a short while
but you wanted to give both me and my child
the security if you and I walked up the aisle

Your loving words weren't answered by my heart
though I thanked you for your gift
I had to be honest knowing I'd lose you as my friend
and with the door closing so came the rift

but 25 years on I remember the day so well
what you offered to me and my extra beating heart
my friend - the smiles I now wish I could tell
wanting the best for me - we lived our lives apart

True story, we were young and he was my friend and in the army but would have given me the world..how would life be if I had accepted his offer?

This is so touching, Cindy. You did the right thing, though, you shouldn't marry someone that you know you don't love. It wouldn't have lasted. It is a shame though that the friendship had to die......

It seems God always sends an Angel in times of trouble and whether we accept the offer, or not, it's always an uplifting event.
Beautiful poem RG. A beautiful rose in the winter.

As tears fall on my face...have you  tried to get in touch with him.  Might be nice if he knew what a gift he gave you, he may have been embarrassed and not really have heard you the first time.  (Just a thought).  God Bless you...

This was extremely touching.

Cindy, this is so sad. It takes a real man to love and be a dad to a child that's not his. But, you did do the right thing, for if you don't love them, then it just won't work. I am sorry that the friendship didn't remain.
