My homeland is not of the world

Oh what was on his mind
by
-matt-

He went to the peak
Oh what was on his mind
We know who he seek
The one who is divine

He didn't bring a lamb or sheep
He didn't bring an once of gold
Some may say he was cheap
But God knew what he would hold

By his side stood his son
And our heavenly father
Up ahead laid the stones
And ash that no one bothered

Forward he led his son
The only one he had
And set him upon the stones
To make God glad

Ho what was on his mind
There laid his only begotten son
The one promised from the divine
Could he really finish what he begun

Oh what was on his mind
Was God the only one
Oh What was on his mind
Fear to lose his begotten son

There wasn't a moment of pause
He must have known that God was fair
Because, although he didn't know the cause
He rose the knife into the air.

Oh what was on his mind
There he stood, ready to attack
He was told to by the divine
And he would not turn his back

It was time to end the prelim
He swung downward, silent like a mime
And an angel came and stopped him
Just in the nick of time

Oh what was on his mind
God knew he’d do the rest
Oh what was on his mind
He now knew it was just a test

It was time to end the dread
He has passed the test
Then a ram appeared up ahead
He'll use it to do the rest

Oh what was on his mind
His son was set free
Oh what was on his mind
He would've finished the deed

Oh what was on his mind
Will I know when I am older
Oh what was on his mind
I know God was on his shoulder

Hoped you all enjoyed it.I know, it's long

NIV Genesis 22:2-13

'2Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you." 6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?" "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" 8 Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together. 9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. 12 "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son." 13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. "

Encarta, you've retold this timeless story so well and I do love the fact that God replayed this entire scene at Calvary with his own Son. Great job you've done. Cheryl

Well, they won't let me edit now, it's been too long.  I noticed two errors, that I didn't see before.  One of the paragraphs started with a ho instead of a oh, and in the end it should say, "I know God's hand was on his shoulder"
