SPIRIT

Your spirit is the essence of the being that you are
It disappears when looked upon, just like an evening starr
The soul’s the sum of all you’ve lived each minute, every hour
It’s not the beauty of the rose, but fragrance of the flower

It dwells within the body, but no features can be seen
It’s not the trees or forest, but serenity of green
It isn’t seen or ever heard, but when your heart is free
It dances in the meadow and it sings a melody

It seeks a better place to dwell, a higher step to climb
It reaches not for twinkling stars,, but rather the sublime
It’s eyes are raised toward heaven, and it’s arms are raised toward God
With every year the body lives, and every mile plod

It has no size and yet it grows, no age but yet it learns
It has desires, but not a dream, for righteousness it yearns
It’s caged within, yet not confined, for life continues on
It is your beacon in the night, your footpath in the dawn

The soul is what another sees, when looking at your deeds
Not conscious of the inspiration shining on his needs
You are a light of life and love, you are the one he chose
The very breath within his chest, the fragrance of a rose

A soul’s a guide but yet it is a child in distress
It’s wounds of inexperience are sorrow’s helplessness
It is the beauty of the man, the conscience of the mind
One day it goes to meet with God, and leaves the man behind

And when it goes to meet God in heaven, so much wiser it will be,
For inside the heart of soul lives now love setting spirit free.

Oh Liz, this was so very true, and oh so very beautiful, what a soothing poem.

Light tomorrow with today!

Elizabeth,
How wonderfully your pen describes our spirit and soul.

Isn't it amazing that God is a spirit who dwells in us, as all life exists only as spirit? We live in a flesh body, just a temporary throw-away spirit container.

And this imperfect flesh life is just a shell to help us prepare for eternity, where the real life begins. For we all are still growing in God's womb awaiting our true birth, as we purify, fight off poisons and toxin attacks designed to strengthen our spirits as we prepare for eternity.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem.

((Elizabeth))

You are the master of the sonnet and rhymed poetry. This is gorgeous...with a magnificent message within its verses.

Oh, Liz, how exquisitely you write as if the Angels themselves have filled your pen with their gift of peotry. You have perfected this gift to boundless heights and I learn and grow with each one I read! Love, Ellie

This lifts.  I hope you have shared it with the appropriate people that it so rightly deserves to come before...for something this well written does not deserve to be appreciated by just the poets of Passions...it deserves to be seen by all...

Liz, you truly are a gentle poet.  And this is marvelous!
