Jonah and the Big Fish “I won’t go! Don’t send me Lord!” “Please grant me this one wish.” But God refused and I rebelled and landed in the belly of a fish God spoke to me, gave His command Go to Ninevah, Jonah, you'll be my man Proclaim to the city that their sin is great Repent of your wickedness before it's too late But I ran from God, to a ship I did flee Thought I’d hide from His presence and then be free But the Lord sent strong winds upon the ocean as I slept unaware of all the commotion The ship's captain woke me and in anger he said “If this ship breaks apart, it will be on your head.” What he said was true, God's anger was at me “Take me up on deck, cast me into the sea.” Now the Lord had prepared for me a large whale To swallow me up and for three days I did rail In darkness I prayed, “My sins please forgive and I'll serve you Lord as long as I live.” God had great pity so He spoke his command And the fished spewed me up onto dry land Never run from God for there's nowhere to hide If He gives you a mission, He'll walk by your side JONAH 4:2 You are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness Cheryl McClellan July 29, 01 |

Cheryl, I so enjoy reading your poems because they bring back such fond memories for me... I love the Bible story of Jonah and the Whale (Big Fish). I played Jonah once in a Halloween play where we took the audience into a room covered in plastic, the belly of the whale, and squirted them all with water and threw cabbage on them... it really brought the story to life. Anyway, a nice memory for me. Again, you've done a fine job of telling the story of Jonah poetically. GOD bless you. -Bob |

Bob, I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I've written several Bible stories for kids in rhyme. I'll post a few along the way. I think the whale's stomach for Halloween sounded like great fun. J, thanks for checking it out. Glad you liked. Floria, I always enjoy reading your replies. Thanks as always. Cheryl |
