Praise to God

"My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you. "
NIV Psalm 63:5

Isn't God a He?
Isn't God a She?
Isn't God in everything, alive?

Didn't God make us?
Then what is the fuss?
Aren't you glad He helps us to survive?

Didn't He make Queens?
Didn't She make Kings?
Let us all just Love and Sing and thrive.

In Praise to God

and there is nothing that He cannot do...wonderful, Newell

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Confronting the question of God's sexuality...BOLD move...I like it...shows that you have balls...not afraid to take a risk...that is what I like most about this poem...

jfreak. There is no question of God's sexuality. God is all life. I AM! Sexuality is a word invented by man to create bondange for selfish pleasure. Think about that, my friend. Are you free? Thank you for dropping by.

Silver Streak...

(I am aware that my reply is probably better suited for a discussion forum ... but that's not all ruled out here is it? ... if so forgive me)

Touching on the question of whether God should be referred to as he or she...  I understand the transcendent nature of God and that from his creative power came all proper sexuality (ie Male and Female).  So in that sense, one may take freedom beyond what is written in scripture and call God a she... or a Godess... etc...  But the freedom to do so is highly questionable to me.  If for no other reason than, that the apostles, prophets, and those most intimately involved with the revelation of Jesus Christ and the Father did not call him "She".

Of course some may argue that the reason of this was culturally based and came from the male-centric world of those times.  There may be some truth to that.  But I also believe that God is sovereignly in control and meant the divine revelation of scripture to say exactly what it says...  Secondly as C.S. Lewis once pointed out, the portrayal of God's likeness in scripture is one (nearly always) of a masculine role. . . He is Creator, the sower of seed into the bare  womb of creation.  He is Israel's husband.  He is the initiator of every dance.  The Bridegroom who seeks his wayward bride.  And Lo and behold when he came in the flesh, he was the man Christ Jesus (literally).

Admittedly there are feminine characteristics of God, and all good things sprang from him.  His unconditional love for us is more like a Mother's love than any other natural kind of love that I can see.  He created flowers, butterflies, soft and gentle and cooing things.  Yea he is "Altogether Lovely".

So I don't come arguing that God is a "MAN" in the finite and limited sense that we understand it.  But I cannot go beyond the revelation of the apostles and prophets.  Not once in scripture is God referred to as a she.  So even if I am wrong or not wholly right here,  at least I am safe to abide with the men and women who were so close to his heart and ministry.

You said:  " There is no question of God's sexuality. God is all life. I AM! Sexuality is a word invented by man to create bondange for selfish pleasure. Think about that, my friend. Are you free?"

Surely God created sexuality and male and female to be distinct, it was not humankind's invention.  As Genesis says "Male and Female he created them".

Otherwise the poem is beautiful,
and God is surely to be praised!

Respectfully,

Stephen.

Thank you Stephen for your very thoughtful and beautifully crafted response. I do understand and humbly respect the reasoning underlying your carefully chosen words. I simply believe that God in all of His (as you portray God) omniscience, cannot simply be described in the smaller partition of words and thoughts that historic theologians, you and modern day writers have used to partition your narrow beliefs. I do believe that God allows and is pleased by any and all thoughts of pure hearts. Souls who worship and sing joyful praises to God's Holiness and Name. And God's true Word is far richer and encompassing that any language you or I could learn.

I only try with the help of The Holy Spirit to see and write thoughts from God's Word as encompassing and truthfully as God reveals to me. Although Scripture is Ordained, God has led me to recognize misunderstandings and examples where due to language and human choice translations, The Word has been misinterpreted giving mankind confusing signals leading to much Phasisee-like dark guidance with shackles of bondage.

Let us all search for the Light through Love.

Thank you for your response.
