But for God’s Grace

I watched the prisoner shackled by chains
Wishing to God he could be free
My soul felt his grief and pain
But for God’s grace that could be me

I watched the beggar walk the street
Wishing to God a meal was free
So tired of begging for food to eat
But for God’s grace that could be me

I watched the homeless mother cry
asking, “Can you house my children and me?”
Dejected she turned and walked away
But for God’s grace that could be me

It was my sin that nailed Christ to that tree
Itshould have been my scarred face
He took my sin and died for me
Giving new meaning to the word called Grace

Thank you, Jesus, for matchless grace
That pardoned and set me free
Though another’s circumstance, another’s face
But for God’s grace that could be me

Cheryl:  This is such an insightful and sensitive poem. I think this same thing so many times!

A perfect poem of perfect humility!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

A perfect poem for a time when so many people are making new year's resolutions ...
In that we have done a good deed for the least of these our brothers and sisters, we have done that same deed for the benifit of our lord and maker.  I like you am very thankful not only for what God delivered me from but also what God has kept me from by His grace.  Happy new year and God bless you.  -Bob

Thank you all for sharing your comments. Grace is a beautiful thing and seeing another's plight is something that must motivate the hearts of believers to act. So nice hearing all of your thoughts. Cheryl
