The Tramp

His clothes were all tattered and torn,
With patches and buttons pulled off,
It seemed that too long they were worn,
And strangers treated him with scoff.

His shoes had holes in the bottoms.
The laces were all falling apart.
When he smiled his teeth were all rotten.
He was pushing a beat up old cart.

I wondered where this man came from.
And what was it that brought him down.
Searching through trash for a crumb.
On his face was pasted a frown.

I gave him a dollar or two,
For a warm meal to nourish him.
Maybe his faith would renew,
His future in this world seemed slim.

I told him of mansions up high.
That welcomed one and all
Then told him that God would supply,
If only he'd answer the call.

I prayed with him, stayed for a while.
So he'd know that a friend he had found.
I showed him that life was worthwhile.
I told him Gods love would abound.

At night when I lay down my head,
I prayed that our God comfort him.
I've only supplied him with bread.
While God filled his soul to the brim.

Floria; and you gave the best! Wonderful poem! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

(tears fall down my cheeks) God Bless You, sweet friend, this poem made me cry to feel the love you have in your heart to do such a beautiful loving thing for one in need. (sigh) You have given him love and hope, just as He will always be here to comfort us all! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, you are a true angel! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Floria, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Floria:  What a touching and sensitive poem! The homeless people we come across are always so heart-wrenching.  There's so little one can do, but giving them the Word of God is a priceless gift.

Trillium thank you. If nothing else I did was right, I did teach my children to be sensitive to the needy and they are. They help the needy out very often. We get too comfortable in our little worlds of comfort. Thanks for the remarks. floria

God has a special place in heaven for those who love and care for the least of these.  Nice poem.  Joyce
