Liberty

She stands in her serenity
And lifts her torch for all to see.
She beckons to the folks that roam.
Invites them here to make their home.

Upon her platform in the bay,
Her eyes look out and far away
And did she ever dream that she
Would see this page of history?
I doubt that anbody could,
Except the few who banished good
And let the evil tide creep in
To swamp their souls with blackest sin!

She stands there still, in day and night.
The vision of her sheds a light
Across our people and our land
And all of those who understand,
That we must rise to meet the foe.
To save the liberty we know.
To re-build quickly as we can.
It is our dedicated plan!

Betty; This is a truly magnificent poem of courage and hope! Love, Ellie

Wonderful Betty.  Everyone should understand that what she represents did not come easy and we have to hang on to it.  There is no easy way.  Joyce

Thank you Marge.  The world has changed so radically in two weeks. I hope a year from now, we can look back and see that we handled everything in the best way possible
and peace will prevail.

Bonnie:  I'm sure many eyes are turning to that statue these days and rejoicing that she is still there.  I was looking through the Penney's Christmas catalog and they have a large puzzle of the Statue of Liberty, showing the twin towers and the skyline of New York as part of it. Seemed so ironic.

I hope she will always stand - and that the tragedies she witnessed won't keep us from remembering what she represents. Beautiful poem!
