I saw the appalling pictures of destruction done today.
I wept for those who suffered and knew someone must pay.
But the most outrageous images the television sent,
Were those of the celebrants who laughed at our torment.
I could not imagine reveling in someone else's woe,
And recognized a sample of how the world could go
If we hadn't God to guide us, fill our hearts with sympathy.
When I've seen their streets bombed, I have cried with empathy.

God doesn't want our hearts to fill with hatred, we must love
Even those who hate us, take our orders from above.
Dear God we humbly seek you and turn to you in prayer.
Protect us from those who'd harm us, from land, from sea, from air.
Guide the leaders of this nation, let our people know you're here.
Hasten the day of triumph, when God is everywhere.

We must guard against becoming hate mongers seeking blood for revenge.  Though deeply hurt, we must ask for God's wisdom and guidance as we proceed, lest we worsen our own situation.  Prayers for our leaders were never more needed.
Thank you for sharing your beautifully written inspiring work.
God bless,

Wonderfully written, Joyce

How true!~

And, a world without God would be such a scary place~

This is a great reminder of how we must act in this troubled time. Thanks for this great peice of poetry. Too bad more people don't love as you do.

Lovely heartfelt prayer, Joyce.  I was left looking at the pictures of their joy in disbelief.  How can anyone rejoice on another's pain?  It's awful.  You made some great points here.
