Triumph

He was a victim of a war,
Not fought in trench or field,
But waged within the people's minds
And power they could yield.
For every one who believed in Him,
There were a hundred more,
Who hated and despised Him for
The purity He wore.

They didn't want to hear the Truth.
Were set in lawless ways.
They sought only to destroy Him
And end His blameless days.
They didn't know that God ordained
All things that happened then
And though they killed the mortal Man,
He would return again.

His teachings grow in greater strength,
As each year passes on
And though He is not visible,
His Presence isn't gone.
Down through the centuries, He has been
A triumph over death.
He's the Right Hand of the Father,
Who is our very Breath.

And we each must keep teaching what we know of Him~
Singing His praises loud.

This is a fervent reminder ~
Thank you for sharing your verse~

A very stirring Christ centered poem.  Truly, reminds us where the battle lies and who will remain victorious at the end of our battles.  You have portrayed Jesus very well in your poem.  -Bob

Thank you Joyce:  It's a challenge finding new ways to tell a story we are all so familiar with.

Betty, this is wonderfully woven and the flow is impeccable but for one nit...I think the line near the end would have a more agreeable rhythm if you used He's instead of He has. Read it a few times and make sure it's not just my reading.

It's just that ALL the rest of it seemed so very perfect that I couldn't help mentioning it.  I love the line about Him being our very breath, especially!

VAS:  You're absolutely right!  Thanks for bringing it to my attention.  I read it over several times before posting and never caught that error in meter. Really glad you told me about it and I've changed it.

VAS:  Just discovered that I can't change the error, as it is more than 24 hours since I posted the poem.  I appreciate your critique however and will change it on my copies. Thanks.
